I’d Like to Tell Time What to Do

Robert Glück: Ceramics and Writing

This was a show organised by Ethan Assouline, Julien Laugier and me at Treize, an artist run space in Paris. The show was up 4 weeks in January 2024.

The idea was to combine and juxtapose a small pick from Robert Glücks 50 years archive from his writing practices with his life long ceramic practice. Until lately Robert Glück considered this two practices incomparable.

“When Treize wanted to fashion a show about writing and ceramics, I asked myself, What does my writing have to do with my ceramics? Of course the answer is, Everything: scholarship and research, engagement with the past, the desire to animate, the desire to create risk, to tell stories, to bring my friends into it, to haunt.”

The making of the show was a very intimate collaboration between the four of us and turned into a kind of auto fictional montage of Robert’s many alter egos and characters. On Treize webpage there is good documentation. But after the show Ethan and Julien made an incredible documentation of almost the entire show that can be downloaded here.
